What We Collect

VoltCalcs collects minimal data. All calculator computations run entirely in your browser. We never see your inputs or results.

Google Analytics 4

We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand how visitors use our site: which pages are popular, how long people stay, and where traffic comes from. GA4 collects anonymised usage data including page views, session duration, approximate location (country/city level), device type, and browser.

How GA4 loads depends on where you are visiting from:

  • If you are visiting from the EU, UK, EEA, or Switzerland, we ask for your consent before GA4 loads or any analytics cookies are set. The consent banner blocks tracking until you choose Accept or Reject. When ads are running, Google's consent message (see Advertising) takes the place of this banner, and the choice you make there also decides whether GA4 loads.
  • If you are visiting from California, Brazil, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, or Utah, GA4 loads by default and you can opt out at any time using the “Privacy Choices” link in the footer.
  • If you are visiting from other regions, GA4 loads by default. You can clear our cookies via your browser settings to stop tracking.

We detect your region from the IP address provided by our hosting provider (Vercel) so we can apply the right default. We do not store your IP for any other purpose.

Advertising

VoltCalcs is approved for Google AdSense. When advertising is switched on for the site, VoltCalcs shows ads served by Google. While it is switched off, no ad code loads.

When ads are running:

  • Your browser sends Google some information, including the address of the page you are reading and your IP address.
  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to show you ads based on your earlier visits to VoltCalcs or to other websites.
  • Google's advertising cookies let Google and its partners show you ads based on your visits to VoltCalcs and to other sites on the internet.
  • If you visit from the European Economic Area (EEA), the UK, or Switzerland, Google shows you a consent message. It asks for your choice about ads and cookies. The “Cookie Settings” link in the footer opens Google's message again, so you can change your choice.

The “Privacy Choices” link described above lets you opt out of analytics (GA4). When ads are running, visitors from some US states also see a message from Google, with its own opt-out link for ads.

Cookies and storage

Each time you open a page, VoltCalcs sets a first-party cookie (one from our own site) named __consent_posture. It holds one of three values, opt-in, opt-out or none, to show which consent rules apply in your region (see Google Analytics 4 above). It holds nothing that identifies you, it expires after 24 hours, and it is not used for tracking.

We store your consent choice in your browser's local storage under the key consent-status with a value of granted or denied. The choice itself is not a cookie and is not transmitted to our servers; it lives on your device until you clear it.

When ads are running, Google sets its own advertising cookies to serve ads and measure how well they work. If you visit from the EEA, the UK, or Switzerland while ads are running, Google's consent message collects your choice about these cookies.

If you accept analytics, GA4 sets its own cookies (managed by Google) for analytics purposes. You can change your preference at any time via the “Cookie Settings” link in the footer (opt-in regions) or the “Privacy Choices” link (opt-out regions).

Contact Form

The contact form collects: your name (optional), email (optional), message category, and message text. This data is sent via Brevo (our email delivery service) to our inbox. We do not store form submissions in a database. They exist only as emails.

The form uses Cloudflare Turnstile for bot protection. Turnstile may set a cookie to verify you are human but does not track you across sites.

Rate Limiting

We use Upstash Redis to rate-limit contact form submissions (3 per IP address per hour). Your IP address is used only for rate limiting and is not stored permanently.

  • Google AdSense: ads served by Google, only when ads are running (see Advertising above)
  • Google Analytics 4: website analytics (regional posture above)
  • Vercel Analytics: cookieless aggregate visit counts (no consent required)
  • Cloudflare Turnstile: bot protection on forms
  • Brevo: transactional email delivery
  • Upstash Redis: rate limiting
  • Vercel: website hosting

Your Rights

Under GDPR, you have the right to access, correct, or delete any personal data we hold. We store the __consent_posture cookie, your consent choice if you make one (kept in your browser's local storage), and any emails you send us. You can exercise these rights by emailing contact@voltcalcs.com or using the contact form. When ads are running, Google also sets its own advertising cookies (see Advertising above).
